I'm pretty much up to my tail in stuff this morning, but I wanted to relate The Tale:

It all started on Monday night. This whole business with Absolute Write made me realize that I hadn't backed up my database in a while, and shouldn't I be doing that? I went to export the database from the remote server to my local one and - POW! - all of the data in the tables got erased. The tables where there, but they were empty. This was so Not Good. My next step was to drop a line to the hosting company's support address and ask for them to restore from the last backup. I was told they don't keep backups, even though they state that they do. Boy, was I scrood.

I was waffling about moving to a new server anyway, and that sealed the deal. I found a hosting service that looked good and signed up. Of course, I had trouble getting the SQL stuff set up, finding the correct connection string and all that (sorry about the Geek stuff), and when I went to try the home page, I got a cryptic error message. Long story short: After a day and a half of going back and forth, it turns out that ASP.Net 2.0 was not activated on my directory. I should have noticed that immediately, but I didn't. You know, there's something to say for getting some sleep.

The bottom line is that we're back, and we're (hopefully) better, with more bandwidth and storage.

Now I get to look at HouseFans.net.

In other news, what else have I been doing with my life? Darned little, except take time out to bowl on Wednesday. This was the first day of the summer season. In my morning league we started out using our ending average from the spring. It was a struggle, but I hit my average on the nose. The evening league was a bit of a different story. We decided to set averages. That was good, because usually I do awful on the first night, and with all the stress I was under, hitting my 169 average did not seem probable.

My first game was a 214. Gulp. You've probably read my bowling sagas before: I get one or two good games and then completely fall apart. My second game was a 203. Gulp again, but I know how I bowl. The third game was touch-and-go. I was making my spares, but couldn't connect properly with the pocket for a strike. Then I opened the 9th frame and followed it up with a strike and a spare for a 193 and a 610 series. That meant I set a 203 on the night.

Oh, man, am I in deep poo-doo. There's no way I can keep that sort of average. But it was fun, I will admit that.

Okay, Feline Friday is posted, just scroll down. Again, I still need to work on the hit counters, but once I get everything out of the way for today I'm taking some much-deserved time off!

Have a good weekend!
