I haven't had a chance to sit down and really properly write about things today. You've probably read about the coat. And seen the state of my office! It really does look better than usual. I did get in with the vacuum cleaner and duster on Saturday.
It's been a weekend of doing a whole lot of nothing. I needed that. We did have an impromptu rehearsal on Saturday. Paul went to that while I stayed to supervise the creative problem solving group meeting. Yesterday we went off to shop for some sound effects for our next production. One stop was local antique mall. We're trying to find some old metal roller skates. No luck on that front, but I did find a real bargain on a hat. Perhaps I'll post a picture once I get it cleaned up. It doesn't need much more than a good brush-up and a teensy bit of glue on the feathers. I plan to wear it during the next performance.
I spent today reworking an old story that's been sort of hanging for a while. I'm not happy with the way it's going, but I have this feeling that if I can work through the problems it will be a really good story. Yeah, it's a fanfic (sigh), but it's an idea I can't get out of my head. It goes between this story and this one. If you don't know anything about Ballykissangel, it probably won't be worth your time to click. If you have read the stories, then you know that I make mention of something rather nasty that's happened. This is the back story about the "something nasty."
I know I should be concentrating more on paying work, but there is a method to my madness. I'm using this to overcome a block that I've got concerning terrible events. I have this not-so-irrational fear that the terrible event will end up being such a cliche' that my readers will roll their eyes in disgust. Clearly, I need to work past this problem, and this particular story seems to be the perfect venue.
I'm working my way up to the event. In the meantime, I seem to be bogged down by minutiae. I think I need to simplify the plot. My plan was to have the protagonist deal with one nasty event after another, but it's starting to look like the story is taking too many tangents. I think I need to go back and focus on the main plot and subplot and take it from there.
So Bill Parcells has retired. Again. All of the pundits were saying that it was going to be him or Owens. I can't imagine that Jerry Jones would get rid of Owens. I'm sure he'll bring in another "yes" man who will keep Owens around. I thought Parcells switch to Romo was one ballsy move, and I'm not sure Jones approved. Romo's inexperience has caused some problems, but all in all I believe the Cowboys were a better team for the switch.
On tap for tomorrow: I've got to get a tire (or perhaps just the valve) changed on the car. We walked out of Fry's Friday (Fry's Day) night to find a flat tire on the passenger side. Of course, it was raining. Paul got the tire changed and I planned to do the swap today. It's still under the road hazard warranty; I just bought it last fall. Then I may hit the vintage store to look for a skirt. We have a rehearsal tomorrow night. Hopefully everyone will show up and we can get some serious work done.
Back to work. I've got laundry to finish up yet.
