I decided to give the Safari browser for Windows a try. It seemed a good way to check my web pages for the Mac without actually having to lay out for the hardware.
Well, I can see the Apple home page, but I can't type anything into any text boxes. The pre-loaded favorites show up as little blue ball icons with no text. Once I visit the site then the site icon shows up, but still no text. I couldn't go backwards from the NYT site.
I closed the browser and restarted it. From there I clicked on the link for Support. I see text but no graphics. I fired up Firefox and went to the Apple site. Support for the Windows version? If it's there I sure can't find it. I know this is beta, but you'd think there would be a little guidance. That's very un-Apple.
Then I installed it on my Windows XP Home notebook. It works much better, but I can't resize the browser window. It opens up in full screen mode. I was finally able to move the window, but this is very inconvenient. I prefer to have smaller browser windows because I often have a browser open for reference while doing something else - sometimes in another browser window.
Yes, I know Safari is in beta, but so far this isn't giving me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Update: When I restarted the browser under XP it came up with a smaller window size. I still can't resize. The only options remain to minimize, maximize, or return to the smaller size by clicking an icon.
Another update: I finally figured out how to resize the window. Not very intuitive for Windows users.
