Update on the HTC Mogul

Wow, this is one cool phone!

My iPhone friends may scoff, but I have to say that so far I'm quite happy with the Mogul. The only disappointment so far is the camera, but to be honest I haven't fooled around with its controls much yet. I've been too busy customizing this baby. Here's what I've done so far:

* Tweaked the registry, mostly to get stereo output and better quality for my Bluetooth headphones.

* Added my own ringers and wallpaper. But of course!

* Added an MMS app to send picture mail and then realized I can attach pictures with Outlook. I mail most of my phone pictures anyway. I also want to see if I can post a picture to Zooomr or Flickr using the web interface. That may be asking too much. (Update: Well, I can, but the upload widget won't see the storage card. Don't know if that's the phone or Zooomr.)

* Added my own custom slider sounds. Right now it's a TOS Communicator.

* Added the HTC Home plug-in, which is a nifty launcher app for the home page.

* Installed UITweaker so I could change the home page and menu text colors.

* Added Google Maps and TinyTwitter. I'll probably uninstall the latter and use the web interface. I have yet to find a Java-based mobile Twitter app that I like. The TinyTwitter folks are working on one for Windows Mobile, so I'll keep checking in with them.

* Banged my head against the wall until I got wi-fi to work. Turned out I needed to reset the router.

* Skinned Windows Media Player.

At this point the Wi-Fi works well. I sat in the office today and flicked the switch and and it appears the phone switched from EV-DO to Wi-Fi. Pretty cool.

It's time for bowling. If it's anything like this morning, it won't be fun. ;-)
