Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: of all the days of the work week, which is your favorite?.
John Scalzi says Thursday, and I don't disagree with his reasons. I tend to like Friday because it's Tex-Mex night.
Oh, this isn't your typical Monday meatloaf or Tuesday hash browns, though I do cook up more than my fair share of leftovers. On Fridays we typically hit one or the local joints for some good down-home Tex-Mex fare.
If we don't go out, then I'll grill something on the patio, weather permitting.
The idea is to make Friday a bit of a celebration. Sure, I work from home and one day is pretty much like the next. Heck, here I am at the computer at 9:30 in the evening. One night is pretty much like the next. I wish I could be like Douglas Adams and just wave as deadlines as they fly by, but I sort of have this thing about paychecks. Both of you who read this journal on a regular basis know what I mean.
Be that as it may, we try to keep the weekends for family, and Friday is the symbolic season opener, if you will. So the "season" lasts just a couple of days: It's better than nothing.
If I had to pick a second favorite day, it would be Wednesday. That's my pseudo-day off, though not really. I make up for it. I bowl on Wednesday morning. That's my therapy: I get out of the house, do a little exercise in a smoke-free environment, and get to spend time with adults. Surprisingly, I'm not the only work-at-home mom in the league. Some of us bring work, and the cell phones are always nearby, but it's not the home office, which still makes it a great stress buster.
Wednesday night? I bowl again. Am I a masochist, or what? Paul and I kind of fell into a Wednesday night league when he decided to take up bowling. We looked at the available leagues, and who could argue with one called "Suds 'N Sauce?" The team got a pitcher of (usually light) beer or soft drinks and a pizza or chips and salsa to go along with the bowling. It was a lot of fun, which was the idea. That league moved to 9:00 (too late for us), but we decided to stick with a Wednesday league because we were having such a great time. Paul and I have a bit of a friendly competition going on, but the real benefit is that we get to spend time together doing something that we enjoy. Unless we're bowling bad. No, we still enjoy it. As I've always said: If I was in this for the glory or the money, I'd have been out of it long ago. I'm there to kick back and have some fun.
Extra Credit: Name a song you like with a day of the week in it (you can include Saturdays and Sundays for consideration here). That's a tough one. The first song that comes to mind is Monday, Monday by the Mamas and the Papas, but there's something to be said for Ruby Tuesday as well. Whatever. As long as I can have a hot fudge sundae, who cares?
