Weekend Assignment

This week's assignment: Share a story about when you were once memorably late to something.

I'm not one to preface my entries with quotes, but there are two that sum up this particular tale:

"Repent, Harlequin!" said the Ticktockman.
"Get stuffed."
   --Harlan Ellison,
"Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
   --Douglas Adams

Let's face it: as much as I try to be punctual, I am chronically, notoriously late. Apropos to Douglas Adams, I'm working on a radio script that should be turned in Any Time Now.

But memorably late? Ha! I am so unpunctual that being on time is a memorable occasion. Of course, whenever I am on time, someone else is late. Gah.

Extra credit: How many times do you have to hit the alarm clock before you get up in the morning?

Easy. The answer is none. I've used a snooze button in the past, but these days there's enough activity going on in the neighborhood that I manage to wake up two or three times in the hour before the alarm goes off. The first noisy neighbor starts in at 6:15, followed shortly by Mufflers Are Against My Religion Kid (who had been working on his car until midnight), then the dogs across the alley chime in. And if it's a Monday, the trash trucks start in promptly at 7. The alarm is merely to remind me to turn on the telly to watch the news. I can't see the clock when I have my contacts out. Yes, I am THAT blind.

I suppose the producer would like it if I got back to work. Put the whip away! I'll be a good girl!

I'm with you on it being more memorable for me to be on time. I used to have a button that said "I'm not late, I'm temporally challenged". Nor is it anything to do with sleeping in. I wake up, sans alarm, between 5 and 6 am. And get up. But can I get to work by 8:30 am? No. No, I can't. -Barbara (batgirl on AW)
