Share one of your favorite comfort foods.

I have two big comfort foods: Macaroni and cheese and Tex-Mex. I typically cook mac and cheese on Thursdays because that's when Chris has his bowling league. Before he was able to drive, I had to take him after school and bring him home. I could make up a casserole and put it in the fridge and cook it when I got home. Chris drives now, but that dish seems to be a Thursday tradition. I just love it because it's warm and cheesy.

We do Tex-Mex about every other Friday night. Our favorite spot is Herrera's, a locally-owned chain that's been serving up food for around 30 years. My first visit was in 1976 or so. Their original location was a teeny adobe building that held eight tables. Guests walked past the kitchen to get to the dining area. The place had lines around the building every Friday and Saturday night, and it was such a Dallas icon that National Geographic shot a picture for one of their photo spreads. It's one of those hole-in-the-wall places that attract people of all socioeconomic levels. Yes, the food is that darn good.

The hot sauce is amazing - generally not too hot but with plenty of flavor. They make their own tortillas. Need I go on? Yes. I should mention that the locations with bars serve up the most amazing fluorescent green frozen margaritas. (Yes, I used "amazing" twice.)

Extra Credit: Well, a picture of your favorite comfort food would be nice, and might also make me hungry.

Sorry to disappoint, but I don't have any pictures of the food. I do have a picture of the Herrera's logo:
