Well, I'll miss him. I've found some wonderful blogs through his blog, not to mention the fact that I picked up one of his books and enjoyed it so much that I've bought more. (You're welcome, John!)

Oddly enough, his announcement comes on the day that I learn through the press that a long-time corporate client of mine is going out of business. Of course, the official word broke after close of business today, so I expect that I'll find out more details next week.

I won't starve, but I will miss the extra money, not to mention the fact that I've enjoyed the work. To be honest I've expected the axe to fall for quite some time, though the complete closure of the company did come as a bit of a surprise.

No, I didn't expect to get let go because of competency issues. Every year or so they (like other companies) review their contractors and decide who to keep. My job has been ongoing for about 12 years, though I started to contract with this company 13 or so years ago. They've been good to work for.

Yes, this is a company that I've not named. Typically, I don't name my clients. I probably will after this company goes out of business and I'll probably even tell you exactly what I've done for them. It's been one of the most rewarding (and sometimes frustrating) jobs I've ever had. I won't bash them because there is nothing to bash.

So what's next?

We'll see. This isn't my only source of income, but it's money that I will need to replace. My web design business is starting to pick up, so that may fill in the gaps and then some. I'm also working on some other projects. I've got a novel in the works, and there are other things on the horizon. This will just give me the push I needed to finish the darn book!

So don't cry for me. Really. I'll shed a tear when this is done simply because the client and I have had a wonderful relationship for so long.
