What are your hopes and plans for 2008?

Mainly I just want a more stable year, but the reasons for that are tied into the extra credit question, which I'll attack in a moment. (And pardon any spelling and grammar errors. I'm short on sleep - even more than usual.)

My plans are to work on selling my photography and to finally finish a darned novel. I have sold one non-fiction book and several shorts to anthologies, but I seem to have a block when it comes to producing novel-length work. I need to break that. I've accepted that when I finish that it probably won't be publishable, but that's not a problem. Once I get over that one hurdle I should be able to produce something better.

2008 (or at least the first part) is going to be a time of regrouping for me. See below.

Extra Credit: How was your 2007?

Hectic.

Kid graduated from high school and started college this year, aiming for a degree in Game Design. (It's a hybrid geek/artist degree, which is right up his alley.) Of course, that brings changes in my life. I will no longer be coaching a Destination Imagination team. Believe it or not, that took up a big chunk of time. I enjoyed it, but between that and no longer doing many of the other "mom" things, it's gonna be strange. Chris still lives at home, attending the local community college and getting his basics out of the way for cheap. He'll transfer to the University of Texas at Dallas, which is positioning itself to be another MIT. So yeah, I'm proud of him.

On the work front I've lost two major clients. One went out of business and the other eliminated the project I'd been working on for years. But it's not all gloom and doom: my web design business is picking up and I have some photography on display at a local coffee shop.

I'm also waiting to hear back on an anthology piece. I'm really crossing my fingers on this one because it's a very exciting project. Due to some family issues I nearly had to pull out, but the editor and packager have been very patient with me. I hope I've produced a story worthy of this collection, for I suspect that I'll be the token D-list author among a very stellar group. I'll let you know what happens.
