What a day. Last night I mentioned the grocery store run in anticipation of a possible ice storm.
The ice storm skipped just north of us, leaving us with a cold rain all day.
I wrote a quick journal entry this morning only to discover that I'd lost my Internet connection. Said connection had been working a mere three minutes prior to my clicking the POST button. Turned out the router had gone off into the weeds and my computer refused to play nice once the router rebooted. So I rebooted my computer (losing my entry in the process) and watched the CatCam monitor on my Vista sidebar. Nada. Zilch. No picture. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth on my part Paul had me plug in a static IP address for my network properties. Normally the router just serves me an address, but as I said, my computer wasn't playing nice.
The Internet issue solved, I sat down to read the Fry's ad before digging into work. Ispotted a good deal on memory, so we ran down during lunch. Chris and I both needed another gigabyte. He took the new memory (two gigs to replace his one) and I took the leftover one to boost my memory to three gigs.
Then my computer wouldn't boot.
Turns out the BIOS had the boot order wrong. Easy fix, but it's not the first thing I look at. Call me silly, but it seems prudent to check that the cables are still in place first.
I sat down at the faster computer to dig into web database stuff and the software went crazy. Fortunately, I have the old version on my system so I switched to it and finally started to get things done.
More news over the weekend, if I don't crash. I promise I'll have something more interesting than geekery!
