Some People Should Not Be Allowed Behind the Wheel of a Car

Fresh (almost) daily from Julie Barrett

And yes, some days, I think it should be me.

But today it was not. I ran out to the store to pick up a couple of items, and stopped at the Post Office along the way to mail something. I was in the left turn lane and the car ahead of me crept through ... and then stopped for no apparent reason. The driver finally moved (as the light changed) and turned into the center lane. I moved into the left. The driver suddenly moved in front of me, slowed to a crawl, put on a right turn signal, turned it off, turned it on again, moved to the right then back to straddle the lanes, then weaved back and forth, then finally went to the right. All this was in the space of half a block.  I can only speculate that they couldn't decide between Jack-in-the-Box and Taco Bell. Oh, well. If the driver was plastered, at least he or she was going to a place that didn't serve alcohol.

Dropped of my letters, cleared my box of the various ads exhorting me to send my holiday mail with the Postal Service (motto: "We lay off postal workers just in time for the holidays!"), and then went to the store. The place was blaring Christmas music at a decible level that did not encourage long stays. I grabbed my stuff, tossed it in the trunk, and pulled out of my space. And slammed on the brakes. It was obviously MY fault that I didn't see the lady driving the wrong way down the aisle THROUGH THE PARKING SPACES!!! She was ready to cut out into the aisle proper (though improperly) and was mighty angry that someone was in her way.

Gads. I need a holiday from my holidays.
