A Laid-Back Kinda Day

Yes, I have things I should be doing, but I decided instead to do some system and office housekeeping today. My desk (which is crowded on the best of days) is in terrible shape, and my desktop PC started slowing down today. I'm sure it just needed a reboot, but it also crossed my mind that the scheduled backups hadn't run in while, nor had I performed any of those routine system maintenance-type tasks I should be doing once in a while.
Vista is very good about scheduled backups and disk defragmenting. However, in order for scheduled backups to work, I need to have the disk space. The backup drive was full. Generally, I have enough space for one full backup and four or five incremental backups. Yes, I should get a larger drive for my external enclosure. In the meantime, the plan had been to do a full backup once a month and then an incremental once a week. That had worked fine until I got very busy with other projects. My backups date to late November, whish is very, very bad indeed.
Because it's been so long since my last backup I decided that it would be a good idea to drop everything and take care of that business. The last thing I need while deep in a project is a crash and no recent backup - or to have a mid-life moment and delete a critical file.
Besides, I'm at a sort of pause, and my sinuses are in an uproar. Might as well shift gears and take care of the grunge work.
