Weekend Assignment: TV That Mattered

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett

The release of the blockbuster Star Trek prequel movie reboots a franchise for a cult tv show that had a huge impact on generations of sf tv viewers. Is there a tv series from your youth that you remember especially fondly?

Star Trek is probably the obvious choice, so I'll skip that one and go for The Twilight Zone. That is one of the few prime time television programs that I remember from my early childhood, other than Gunsmoke. It was a show that stuck with me, though, and even as a child I appreciated the good storytelling. As I matured, I learned to appreciate the writing even more.

Extra Credit: Have you bought the aforementioned tv series on DVD? If not, would you if it were readily available at a reasonable price?

That's a lot of DVDs, even for my huge collection. I'd love to find a place where I could buy my favorite episodes, though, and burn them to a DVD or two.

I don;t remember seeing The Twilight Zone until much later, but I used to rush home from karate class to watch Night Gallery. Does that count for anything? ;)
