Common wisdom, these days, backed up by actual statistics if I had time to look them up, tells us that as a nation we've been working harder in recent years just to maintain the same level of financial solvency. Recession-related unemployment and u8nderemployment aside, do you find this is true for your family?
I work long hours for very little pay. Yes, I'm a creative.
And this is something I've harped on many times before. There are more people competing for less work, and more people willing to take low-paying jobs. My income has tanked, but it usually does during a recession.
My husband is salaried, so there's no overtime. On the other hand, we always budget using his salary in order to weather my up-and-down income. And right now I'm plowing a lot of what I make back into building the photography end of my business along with purchasing the occasional reference book for the writing end.
Extra Credit: Is overtime something you take on willingly? Why or why not?
Generally, yes. This is a "feast or famine" business, and when business is good, I take all I can comfortably manage.
