Spring

Lovely flowers. If I could only breathe...

Quickie film review

Someone on a board I frequent mentioned re-watching "Brassed Off" the other day. Perhaps I should go do that myself. Once I got past the somewhat heavy-handed politics, I found an absorbing tale of people facing uncertainty and a wonderful father-son relationship story. Pete Postlethwaite turns in a wonderful performance. And when his son (played by Stephen Tompkinson) has his breakdown, that is a scene not to be missed. Oh yeah: Ewan McGregor is in it, as is a host of familiar Britcom faces. Ignore the box. This is NOT a romatic comedy, though it does have its funny moments. You may need the tissues at the end.

I ache, therefore I am

Well, true to form I did bowl like garbage last night. At least the pressure is off. But my legs really *ache* this morning. Yikes.

Before you hit that ´forward´ button...

Please think about what you´re doing. No matter how many copies of that e-mail you send along, Bill Gates will not give you money. There is no trip to a theme park, and no, nothing special ´surprise´ is going to happen once you forward that to ten people.

Happy St. Pat´s!

The legendary luck was with me this morning, that´s for sure. I shot my first-ever 600 series. A 623 to be exact. I am still shaking.

And finally, proof that the bubbles in glass of Guinness actually do go down.

Too tired to blog

Yet another relative has had surgery. I slept through the night last night for the first time in weeks. Must catch up on rest.

And I promised to cook something nice for St. Pat´s tonight. I always do this. We won´t be home tomorrow, so tonight it is. The only problem is that the stew takes just about a cup of Guinness. I´m not throwing the rest down the drain. Life is rough. ;-)

That was painless

Just got back from voting in the primary. The sign-toting campaign workers standing just outside of the boundary outnumbered those casting votes inside. The touch screens worked well, although they really need to consider adding paper receipts come November.

Batten Down the Hatches

Looks like we´re due for our first round of heavy Spring storms. I managed to make enough room in the garage for the car. Having lost one in a hail storm, this is an experience I care not to repeat.

Are we having fun, yet?

Well, we had our creative problem solving tournament on Saturday. I´m quite glad we´re finished. The team didn´t do very well, but they had a good time. In the end, that´s really what mattered. I´m very proud that they kept their sprits high in the face of adversity.

I´m sorry to say that this is better than I could say for myself. I embarrassed myself royally. First, I forgot the paperwork and had to make a mad dash back home. Next, I sprinted across campus in the cool, damp weather so they could get checked in before it was too late. That little sprint triggered the first of four asthma attacks. But it gets better. During their presentation my cell phone went off. Apparently something had pressed against it in the bag for long enough to power it up. Fortunately the team had not drawn Celtic music (for those in the know, this is a Destination ImagiNation Improv team) as I´d chosen the theme from "Ballykissangel" as my ringer.

Anyway, I´m still ill and I´m on antibiotics. Not fun at all. The only good thing about it is that I got to be home today to hear the next part of "Kes" on BBC 7. Why is it that I have to go to a UK station to get this sort of thing? No, I´ll stop there. I don´t need to waste my energy ranting about the state of radio here in the States.

Oops

Had to edit that last entry a bit. It is not easy to blog from a cell phone. It is, however, a testament to the effeciency of our Postal Service (insert dripping sarcasm here) that I could even think about doing such a thing. A second clerk finally did amble out. Sometimes I think I could write most of a short story whilst standing in those lines.

The endless line

Only one clerk on duty at the Post Awful yet again. Sigh.

Today´s research is fuled by...

Travis.

I´ve come to the inescapable conclusion that I need to do some research in order to push my current project forward. There is only so much one can create from whole cloth, I suppose. Besides, I am still nursing an aching wrist, so reading is probably going to be less stress.

Still here...

This is the busy time of year for us, with the creative problem solving season hitting the peak. I´m also supposed to be working on a couple of projects, but I am experiencing a terrible block. Ugh.

Someone wonders why there is no comment link on this blog? Good question. The short answer is that the blogging software is something that I´ve developed myself. Until I find a good way to filter out spam and obvious vulgarities there will be no interactive comments. Use the e-mail link. I will not publish comments without the permission of the author. Make sense?

So long, A-Rod

So the Rangers tried to send A-Rod to the Red Sox, and it didn´t work out. Next, he´s the captain of the team. Now, he´s a damn Yankee. (Pending approval of MLB, which is fairly likely.) Memo to the Rangers front office: Find some good pitching talent. Please.

Hmm...

The blog entry from the hospital never made it. I was blogging from my phone, so I am unsurprised. The signal was kind of flaky that day.

Snow!

Yeah, long time no blog. I´ve been busy with the relative who had the surgery. Said relative is recovering well, but I´ve spent a lot of time going back and forth to help out. Hopefully things will be back to normal.

We had snow in North Texas today. Snow in this area is a rarity - at least anything beyond a flurry. We´ve had at least three inches today. The picture above is taken in our back yard. See other snow pics here.

What am I?

I took the plunge and permed my hair this morning. Predictably, I look like someone who has had a very bad experience with static electricity. Hopefully it will get better in a few days. I´m one of these hard-to-perm folks, so when I do it, I go for broke. Once I wash my hair it will relax. I hope.

Who am I?

Yeah, right.

You´re Captain Archer! You´re always in control of situations and are very adventurous. You´re a leader, but you´re also laid back and willing to listen to what others have to say. You look a great deal like a scientist from 1999 named Dr. Sam Beckett.

Take the Enterprise Quiz!

Brought to you by redanubis.

More on viewing pictures

If you get a chunk of garbage instead of a picture when you go to view the large version, try reloading the page once or twice. Sorry about that. I don´t know the cause of this issue, but am looking into it.

Warsaw pic

Okay, let´s try this again. The server went down as I was trying to post before, and then I had (gasp!) actual work to do. This was from the hotel where Paul stayed a few days ago. And he tells me they´re having a warm winter...
