End of the week. I'll ramble on a bit today.
Apologies for such a short post yesterday. I had other things on the brain! ;-)
One thing I did accomplish yesterday was an update to the House fic Playing Doctor. And sigh, I've noticed a problem with the menus on the left-hand side of the fanfic pages. I need to figure that one out.
And while I'm on that topic, somone over at Live Journal yeste ...

Yes, good fanfic does exist
I spend so much time talking about what's wrong with fanfic, that I really should give some time to the good stuff. Here's a really good Snape story called The Shipping Forecast. It's so well-written and funny that I hate to give anything away. So go read.

Suffering and sympathy
Karen has an interesting entry (and for some reason I can't link directly, so use the link at the left) about why writers put their characters in a position of helplessness or make them suffer. One theory she quotes is that it relates to a mothering instinct. I tend to ascribe to her husband's theory that suffering is part of the puzzle, but I also ascribe to hers that suffering should be part of the conflict of a story.
The timing on that was interesting for me as I saw a perfect example ...

Nose, meet grindstone
Finally, back to the routine. And yes, my desk is still quite clean, save for my camera, which is there to remind me to get the holiday pictures off of the flash card, dang it!
Went to Half Price Books yesterday and dropped off a box of old reference and writing books that I no longer need and - surprise! - picked up more reference and writing books.
