Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.'s Home Office Bldg., N. Y. City, Corner of Engine Room. Electrical and elevator equipment the largest of any office building in the world.

This dates to 1911. I can't imagine seeing any equipment room these days with polished brass knobs.
