London

Our first full day in London, and boy, has it been guys! We were mostly pottering around in the City, and by pottering around I do mean we went to Leadenhall Market, AKA Diagon Alley. From there we went to the Tower of Lundon. We’d done the tour on a previous trip. So we just walked on past and went along the Thames through Old Billingsgate Walk. The site of the former fish market, the Billingsgate building itself has been renovated into an events venue.

Our next stop was Sky Garden, which had an incredibly long queue. So it was back to the tube, past the fire monument and up to Covent Garden.

Which is basically a tourist destination. We did get some pictures and had lunch at the Punch And Judy Pub, which is next to the theatre where the long-running “hit” originated.

After a walk through the neighboring Jubilee Market, we went on to the British Museum. A fair number of museums in London are free, and as such this one was packed. I suspect a lot of people were beating the heat, but there was also at least one group of school children touring. At least they had some lifts. My knees were already feeling it.

We stopped for coffee, then went back to the hotel to rest up and do laundry. Laundry? So soon? The hotel had a free laundry for use of their customers, so why not?

Dinner was at an Indian spot near Trafalgar Square (we suspect the spice level was on “tourist” setting), then followed it up with a visit to a gin bar for a G&T, followed by a meander back to the hotel to pack for the crazy week ahead.

Not a lot of journaling on this day. I had promised myself I’d take more detailed notes. But this also means I’m having fun, right?
