Are you my friend?

Oh, please. Stop with the spam invitations already. Today it was from a place called Who-Remembers-Me.com. Apparently they are a legitimate web site, but they allow people to send a referral without identifiying themselves. My e-mail simply said that "a friend" wanted me to join. There's a reference number, so I did a little digging. It turns out if I want to find out what "friend" wanted me to join so badly, then get to pay up. But I have to create an account first to find out how much I have to pay. Friendship extortion!

It gets better: The tell-a-friend link is available to anyone without an account, and the box stating that the sender has permission from the "friend" to send the e-mail has already been checked. Thanks but no thanks.

This reminds me of one of those anonymous chain mails. "Send this to thirty-six of your friends or something terrible will happen!!!!" Of course, you have no way of knowing which "friend" sent you the letter in the first place.

I've marked it so further ones from this company go straight to the spam bin. Nice try.

Yes, I had one of those go by, too. reunion.com does basically the same thing. I can (and did) register as a free user, post my info, and do searches, but info on who has searched for me (apparently one person, ever), requires a pauid account. I really don't care which member of the F-M Class of 1975 pulled up my profile. Not one of the people listed on the site was any closer to me back then than a friend-of-a-friend.

I've gotten those also.. always you have to pay and join to "find out who" is looking for you.. and it's always from a site that you have to "sign on" to get the "free part".. so they have your address.. it's spam pure and simple .. looking to get some more business.
