Dear Spammers...
Thank you for your apparent concern about my health and welfare. Please note the following:

I have no need of blue pills.

Along those lines, I don't want to put the weight loss doctor's miracle drug that sounds like "foreskin" into my mouth, thank you very much.

If I want a drug that makes me look younger in less than a month, I won't purchase it through a web site that sells cars, thank you.

Latest Twitter Spam Tactic: Retweets
Normally I'm flattered when someone takes the time to retweet a post of mine. Imagine my puzzlement at retweet of a post recounting several terribly mundane things I'd done during the day. It wasn't witty. It was missing punctuation. Yes, it was late when I made the tweet.

Being the curious sort, I clicked on the profile and discovered it was all retweets, and most from writers. Hmmm. Her profile invited bloggers to join her at her site. Which linked to ...

Twitter Spam Goes to the Next Level
If you have a Twitter account, you may want to consider changing your password. It's been getting nasty over the last couple of days. Let's see if I can recap:

First, a new service started up that promised to send @ messages straight to your inbox. Problem was, the service asked you to "support" them with your first tweet. It sent out a message from your account saying what a neat service it was. The web page didn't say what "support" meant. Of course, there were tons of these messages fl

What Part of "Spam" Does MySpace Not Understand?

Lately, I've had several e-mails from MySpace pop into my inbox. I don't even have an account there. Apparently MySpace members can add any addresses they wish to their mailing list - whether the accounts belong to members or not. I don't have any problem with this for opt-in lists, but suddenly I'm getting spam, and some of it ain't pretty.

One from this morning pretends to want to assist me with promotion, but it's a variation on a spam about a "paypal like site" that's been go...

New e-card you don't want

I wouldn't have even noticed this in my inbox except for the fact that a friend of mine told me she was sending an e-card. (She uses reputable services and was kind enough to let me know in advance.)

This one, in the spam folder, wished me a happy New Year and begged me to visit new year with love dot com (deliberately broken URL) to retrieve my card. A little googling confirmed my suspicions that the e-mail is probably clean (I used a preview function for safety), but the site loads ...

Happy Spam Day?

Wow. Yesterday was quiet on the e-mail front. This morning I found a ton of spam in my inbox. All but one piece of e-mail had been caught by the filter and segretated to the junk folder. Still, I had to check the subject lines and the senders just to make sure there weren't any false positives. Most subject lines suggested ways I could impress my girlfriend.

Uh, yeah. Right.

I don't think the spammers actually took the day off. I suspect today's influx comes courtesy of peopl...

I don't like Spam!
Looks like the recent arrest of "Spam King" Robert Soloway has done nothing to stop the flow of the stuff. I just thought that I was getting more in my inbox, but it turns out that I was right.

Dang.

If someone I know named Richard has put on a lot of weight, then perhaps I'd like to hear about it. Otherwise, lay off the spam!

Do. Not. Spam. This. Blog.
You may think you're doing a good thing for the world. I don't know. But when you drop a list of links and run, you look like a spammer. You want to discuss something? Great. That's what we're here for. This is not a place to dump your links. Got it?

Fun with spammer names
Yes, I've got some good names. Pickin's have been on the slim side lately. I think these things go through phases.

Let's crawl into the spam folder and see what we have, shall we?

Numismatic E. Contortion - I'm sure this "gentleman" would do plenty of funny things with the money he hopes to get from this pharmaceutical scheme.

contained acid - Is that a comment on the unknown attachement you're pushing?

Stirling Citizen - Really? Selling male enhancement products via spa...
