Round Robin Photo Challenge

This week's challenge is "Transportation," which was suggested by Robin of These are the Days of our Lives.

This time around I decided to show transportation of the mind. For me, that's books. A good book can take me anywhere. Busman's Honeymoon by Dorothy L. Sayers is what I call my "comfort book."

I've been a fan of Sayers for years, and quite a few years back I finally located a copy of Busman's Honeymoon. As it turned out, I came down with a terrible case of the flu shortly thereafter, so I spent a good (okay, awful) two days in bed doing little but taking meds, sleeping, and reading. The reading was the best part, and I have to give some credit to the book for my recovery.

Since then, Busman's Honeymoon has been my second-best companion whenever I'm sick, or stressed, or just needing a bit of comfort. My best companion is, of course, my husband! (I'm sure the cats have something to say about that, but perhaps I'll leave that thought until Feline Friday.)

Sayers described the book as a love story punctuated by bits of detection. That's a fairly apt description. Sayers had her detective Lord Peter Wimsey court Harriet Vane over the course of several years, and finally, she married them off. Peter and Harriet honeymoon at a cottage in a small town where Harriet grew up. Of course, a body is found in the cellar, and their plans for a quiet time in the country are interrupted by policemen and an assortment of neighbors. It's certainly a tale of domestic frustration if not bliss.

So there you have it. Who needs Calgon when you have books?
