Yesterday the concom at The Leap Back 2009 asked if I had anything I might be able to send to their charity auction. I'd planned on sending a book, but I thought I might be able to dig up a few more items. The book went out yesterday, but I spent a cozy afternoon in the living room digging up part of my past:
This snapshot represents a smattering of the treasure trove I uncovered - tons of zines, copies of old scripts, publicity materials, stuff I'd written, convention materials - it certainly brought back a lot of memories.
I was on the committee for the '94 QL convention. As far as I'm aware, it was the first fan-operated QL convention ever. (Someone will prove me wrong. Please do!) I was also on the committee to get Dean Stockwell his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I've got pictures from that in a file box sitting at my feet. Between that and a scrapbook I found, I'll have plenty to do for a few days.
I'd like to take the best of the pictures and scrapbook out to the convention. A few of the items you see above are going to the charity auction. Some aren't worth sending, and others I don't want to part with.
Quantum Leap had a large and well-organized fandom. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Karen Funk Blocher (Outpost Mâvarin) and all she and the Tucson fans did for QL. She was one of the early instigators. I can blame her. (Grin) Some of her work is there in the picture.
For those considering going to the convention, be aware that airfares just took another drop. I finally booked my plane trip today. This probably means fares will take a real nosedive, so watch the web sites!
If you're going, please leave a comment. I'd love to meet up with you at the convention!
