Event updates!
Not much, but I do have a couple of things kinda firmed up on my calendar.
I don't know exactly what I'll be doing at either event (hey, it is a bit early) other than I should have things in the Art Show. So bid early and bid often!

ArmdilloCon Report
I spent the weekend in Austin at ArmadilloCon. It was an up-and-down experience. Most of the negatives were due to the weather/air quality.
I was not on programming this convention. It's one of those cons where I'm not a good fit. Goodness knows I've asked, but as a conrunner, I totally understand. They can't have everyone on programming. I was invited to participate in the Art Show, and so I went for that and a bit of networking. Okay, and to look at a different set of ...

SoonerCon Report
Well, SoonerCon was a blast. I've just been too tired to post about it until today.
The panels and workshops were fun, and I not only caught up with some old friends, but made new ones!
There had been one bit of a snafu in programming, but hey, I've run convention programming before, and I know stuff happens. That glitch may lead to some other opportunities, though, so yay!
If you'd like me to do a workshop at your con (o...

My Soonercon Schedule
Yes, Soonercon is approaching!
I'm very excited about this weekend, even if my table in the Art Show is going to be sparse this year. My laser burned down, fell over, and sank into the swamp. So, unless the few things I have all to go auction and sell for fabulous prices, I don't know what's next on that front. Well, the laser is still (barely) under warranty, and I have an email in to support. We shall see what happens. Even if I get it ...

My SoonerCon Schedule
Hey, boys and girls! SoonerCon is this weekend. We're really excited to be back this year.
I'm in the Art Show again, so if you're there, bid early and bid often! If my work isn't your cup of tea, there are plenty of fine artists to support. And if my work is and you still have budget, there are plenty of fine artists to support.
I have a busy weekend as usual. That's how I like it. I enjoy hanging out with people (and I'll have plenty of time to...

It's The Big SoonerCon Round Up Post! (Kermit Flail!)
We had a great time at SoonerCon this year. But of course.
The con moved to the Embassy Suites in Norman this year. It was a closer drive for us. No fighting Friday afternoon rush hour in OKC. (It's like Dallas and Austin Friday rush hours, in that it just goes on all day.) Of course, some people probably had a worse drive compared to before. I'd been at that hotel several years ago for a con, and liked it. It's showing its age a bit now and looks ready for a major refre...

Lessons Learned From (About) Ten Years of Art Shows
I participated in my first convention art show in 2009. I did it on a whim, and I sold out. Completely. This is a feat I have never duplicated since. But hey, these art shows have helped through some tough times.
Over the last few years, though, it's become evident to me that I need to get more businesslike in how I handle things. Oh, I've kept track of sales and paid my taxes, but the nuts and bolts of deciding what to show and how to price have always been by the seat of my ...

So You Want To Be A Convention Panelist?
Yep, it's time for my annual(ish) guide to becoming a panelist at conventions. The short version is that it's not as easy as you think. The long version is based on years of attending and running cons. I've attended - and helped run - all sizes of cons. But I don't speak for any con I now run or have helped run in the past. This is based on my experience, and of course, your mileage may vary.
So you have a book our a game out, and you've heard one of the best ways to promote i...

SoonerCon Wrap-Up
SoonerCon celebrated their 25th convention this weekend, and boy, did they pull out the stops! Kudos to the entire committee for another excellent event!
SoonerCon is my con home away from home. FenCon is always my home con, but since I help run it I never get to see much of what's going on. I always come home from OKC doing my Sally Field impression. And this year...wow! So many wonderful people, so many hugs, so many nice things. So, ...
