Round Robin Challenge: About the Weather

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett
Saturday, August 14, 2010

Man, I keep missing these things popping up in the RSS reader. No one's fault but my own, obviously. It's a good thing I checked, because I'd contributed part of the suggestion for this week. Essentially, it's anything to do with the weather, but my suggestion was extreme weather, so I'll go with that.

I took this shot just a few moments ago. We're not in true drought conditions around here, but it's hot - 101F on my front porch - and dry. This is the so-called fruit of one of the jalapeno plants:

Yes, it's dry.

Now it's time to dip into the archives for a couple of shots. This is a dust storm back in 2007:

rr_weather_2.jpg

That was taken about 4:00 in the afternoon, as I recall.

And here, in the same vicinity, just two months later:

rr_weather_5.jpg

This was a classic green wall cloud that was showing rotation and signs of funnel activity. Fortunately for our neighbors to the east, no tornado actually formed. After a few hours of storms we got this as a reward:

It looks like the sky is on fire, doesn't it?

All in all, this is the kind of weather I prefer:

Hi Julie :)

Goodness, that dust storm is amazing! I think that would have been the end of me! I wish we had warmer weather here, this summer has been more like late winter/early spring. Right now, at 10:07 AM it is 54 degrees and cloudy, BRRRRR, I will send you some brrrr, if you will send me some warm! :) Great photos hon!

Hi!
Those are some awesome shots of weather.  Glad to hear the cloud didn't produce a tornado.  I love your rose, very pretty.  Have a great day!

Beautiful pictures!  We're hot and dry down here, too.  Well, it's humid, but no rain in sight!

Sorry to take so long to get over here - I've been really bad about that lately. I love the dust storm one. It's so sepia. Reminds me of old photos of the Dust Bowl.

And by way of your more recent bout of extreme weather, I love that "slippery when wet" shot.
