Super Model

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett
Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Last week I joined the Round Robin Photo Challenges. This week's topic is Super Model. I am no model. In fact, I bought a dress form so it can "model" cloaks for me:

I named my model Honoria Glossop, after a character in the Wodehouse books. Like her namesake, she sounds like a beautiful thing, but is, well ... difficult. Her "head" is a wig stand, and I've been known to have her wear sunglasses, Mardi Gras beads, and/or leis for pictures.

But that's not what I'd even planned to show today. This is a model Paul built back in 1994 of the handlink used on Quantum Leap:

QL Handlink

Like Karen, we were deeply into the show. I found these translucent Lego-type blocks at a craft store, and he built the handlink. It's wired with flashing lights (a set of T-shirt lights from a craft store) and a sound chip. Yes, if you whack it on the side it makes authentic handlink noises.

This is what it looks like when it's lighted:

These aren't the best pictures, I'm afraid. I didn't have time to pull out a light kit and do some proper shots. But I did find this picture taken at the convention:

The Handlink at LeapCon '94

Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell you recognize, I'm sure. That's Chris, age 4, with his back to the camera, and me with a hand on his back. He was very close to the edge of the stage.

(I'm sorry but I don't know the name of the photographer. If someone does, please let me know so I can post proper credit.)

Honoria IS beautiful, at least as depicted here. And I always loved and coveted that handlink. No idea on the photo credit, I'm afraid. Not sure about the tagging issue - I haven't tried to do tags in Blogger. Perhapos I'll consult with Shelly on that one. Maybe round robin or RR Meme. Karen

Love your model, very posh! Did you make that cloak? Never really watched Quantum Leap, but I like anything that has flashing lights so I love the Lego model as well, even though I don't understand what it is.
