Sometimes I wonder...

I really do like to exchange ideas with other writers. Earlier today someone asked for suggestions. The author had a main plot, but needed a way to get a character better involved in the plot. I asked a couple of questions and offered up a couple of suggestions to open up things or perhaps throw in another complication. Nothing concrete, mind you. Just some vague questions to get the author thinking.

The last thing I want to do is tell someone how to write their story, but apparently this author thought that was what I was doing as he/she got all defensive on me. The most concrete thing I said was that the author think about adding another thread - and that thread might pull the character into the story. They could take it or leave it. There was absolutely no reason to jump all over me.

Guess I'll keep quiet in that community for a while. Things had been getting a little testy among other members. I don't have time for that.

Almost 1,000 words on the rewrite. I ended up throwing in an extra complication! I guess that there was a reason for that frustration, eh?
