Well, first things first. I'll be back to blogging tomorrow. The break was good, although I spent most of the week laid up on the couch with a bum knee. But that's for tomorrow.
What's for today is an apology for the downtime. Late yesterday afternoon I got an emergency notice from our hosting service to change all of our passwords. They didn't think there had been a breach, but they wanted us to change them all the same. (Long story short: A third-party app used to administer sites turned out to have a major security hole.) So I changed the passwords and went out to a family dinner.
This afternoon I realized that I'd forgotten to change the password in one spot. That meant the stuff that talked to the database didn't know the new password, and the database was telling that stuff to take a virtual hike, and so the stuff that talked to the database reacted by throwing a hissy fit of error messages.
Oops.
As far as I know there was no data breach; just a lot of scrambling on the part of the hosting service to ensure that the data was secure and on my end to change passwords. Loads o' fun.
And yep, I scrood up real good. No data was lost, but I do have a nice bruise from banging my head against the desk. I fixed the WRONG configuration file, and then couldn't figure out why the site wasn't working. Doh!
Well, I deserve to shut my brain down because it's Mother's Day, right?
Yeah, that's it!
And a happy Mother's Day to all!
