Geeky Friday

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett

I'm off to an early bed in a bit. It's been a busy, kind of geeky week.

Last night I got a look at a version of Windows Mobile 6.5. Zippy, but I don't know if that was due to MS or the fact that the ROM didn't have any of the phone carrier apps on it. It's had a nice, finger-friendly makeover. Some of it (like the "honeycomb" arrangement in Programs and Settings) will take a little getting used to. But this is a long-overdue makeover, and I look forward to seeing some WM 6.5 phones out in the wild.

I spent a chunk of the day at my mom's. We took her to the Sprint store for the shiny new Instinct S30. Last year when we did a phone swap we passed our A900 along to her. She liked it, but it turns out it wasn't hearing-aid compatible. She's also been driving around to a few unfamiliar neighborhoods (not bad ones, just different places) to hear my brother's band, and the idea of some sort of SatNav device was appealing. She can get live turn-by-turn directions with Sprint Navigation (TeleNav rebranded), and the touch screen makes it very easy to use.

She also wants to send text messages! Next thing you know, she'll be uploading embarrassing videos to YouTube. ;-) She'll be a phone geek before she knows it!

Dinner out on the patio tonight, and I forgot the allergy meds. Bad girl. Guess I'll drug up and go hit the sack.

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy your weekend!
