Friday!

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett

Well. It's been a week here.

Last night I actually slept through the night. I couldn't believe it when the alarm went off. Could it have had something to do with the fact that we kicked Midnight out of the room last night? I don't know, but I certainly felt much better this morning. I still have a major sleep deficit, but that put a huge dent in it.

Chris and I went out for coffee this morning. He's going to A-Kon at the end of next month and told me that he wanted to wear a costume. What costume, pray tell? It's something from a Gundam series. We went to Joann and looked through some pattern books to see if we could find something to alter, then came home to research the costume further. Then we went to Hancock Fabrics and after much wailing and gnashing of teeth settled on a pattern. It's going to require some serious alterations. The plan is to draft it out and mock it up in muslin to see if it works. But we have to do this by Sunday so we can go back and get the fabric on sale. It'll cost less than $20 for the fabric, but there will be a lot of work involved.

Chris has promised to help. Yes, he knows how to sew. That's one of the advantages of having a kid do a program like Destination Imagination. They have to make their own costumes. We'll see how much he does and how much I do. I have a feeling I'll be doing most of the work on the mock up, but I hope that when it comes time to sew the actual costume that he'll be able to do a lot of that on his own.

After our trip to the fabric store we picked up some groceries. That's normally not worth blogging about, except the trip took us by Wilson Middle School, which is closed until Tuesday after a case of swine flu was confirmed in one of their students yesterday.

Reason to panic? Oh, I think not, though I suspect that if Chris was still in elementary school (back when he had is more serious asthma issues) I would  have kept in touch with the school nurse on the situation. The school district is actually taking a reasonable approach (gasp!) and allowing excused absences even if parents keep their children out as a preventitive measure. That's good.

Time to get going on dinner. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!
