The Not-A-Snow-Day

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett

Of course. I moved my schedule around today because snow was in the forecast.

I think we had a few flakes. Of snow. Har.

Instead, I've battled a mild headache while trying to write. Abut 4:30 or so I realized the source: One of the neighbors his having some work done. Stuff in the air. Allergies, ahoy! Oh, well. It's just one of those things.

I managed about 600 words today. That doesn't sound like a whole lot, but it was written in fits and starts between bouts of research. This idea - if I can pull it off - will require some serious research. As mentioned yesterday, I'm writing some background which consists of a first-person bio of the lead character. This is set in the Victorian era, and I want the woman to have some air of independence, yet I don't want to stray too far from social conventions without a plausible reason. It's not Steampunk (or Alternate History), so I do need to work enough within the confines of history and social norms to retain an air of believability. I think I've found the balance, and this work could be fun to write.

Actually, I'd love to throw a little Steampunk into this, but for now I just want to see if the story is worth telling. I know. I go through so many fits and starts with my writing. Enough, and I'll just throw 'em together and make a book. Hey, that's the ticket!

Maybe not.

And yes, the Not-A-Snow-Day means I've been a very good girl and haven't left the house. Shoot, I've barely moved from the computer, except to cook. And dinner was chili. Put it together and let it simmer all afternoon. Yum!

I think it might be a good thing to step away from the computer for the evening. Easier said than done, I'm sure. I need to find something to watch. Time to dig in the DVD cabinet. Any suggestions?
