The end of the week could not have come at a better time. The Creeping Crud has dovetailed into the latest bout of Crap That Happens At "That Age." I won't go all TMI on you, other than to say sleep has been a precious commodity these past few days. I started my next round of supplements, which ought to kick in over the next couple of days. In the meantime, knowing what happens when I go on in this state, I made the decision to not do anything other than laundry and to spend a little time on my Steampunk skirt.

Until I realized that today is the third of December. On Sunday (as both of my regular readers will recall) the clerk at the fabric store told me that the drapery lining I wanted would be half price December 1-3.

Ah, yes.

I dropped everything and took off. The fabric was indeed on sale. I'd calculated that 5.5 yards would more than do the trick, so I asked for six. The bolt had 5.5 yards. Ah, well, it was enough. Then I got to looking at the lining and decided that it the project as I'd planned it would look like crap. This is nifty drapery lining, but it's velvet-like stuff on one side and the other is a sort of rubberized-looking material. The plan is to hang a second rod behind and slightly lower than the rod that holds the vertical blinds we have on the patio door. We could just move the liner out when we needed to block the light to watch TV or play video games.

I realized the stuff would look like a draped rubber sheet. Ewwwwwwwwww.

So I dropped in at one of the local thrift shops, where I had recently spied some sheer panels for cheap. I'm talking four bucks for a pair when one will do this job just fine. Four bucks might have bought me 1.5 yards off the bolt at the fabric store. The sheers were still there, and I grabbed them plus a really cute pair of hardly worn blue Mary Janes and a brass chain belt that I'm going to make over for a chatelaine to go with the Steampunk outfit. The total damage was about $7.

Now I have more sewing to do this weekend. I also need to find a curtain rod that will work well in the tight space. I expect I'll have a nice light-blocking curtain for right around $20, and it should look pretty decent.

Yes, I'm frugal. Frugal means stretching my dollar. Cheap means getting crap for the same dollar.

Speaking of frugal, in a desperate bid to get out of the house, move around, and generally try to get tired I stopped at the antique mall down the street from us yesterday. It's an interesting place, squeezed into a former gun store in a strip shopping center. The owner is really sweet, and she has some amazing finds sometimes. I came home yesterday with two well-made hat boxes. They were having a 25% off sale, and the two boxes together were less than I'd have paid for one cheap cardboard flat packed hatbox. They're not antique, but that's not the point. They'll keep the dust off of the growing hat collection, and without my spending an arm and a leg. Plus, they'll last me for years. That, friends, is frugal.

Had a decent dinner tonight. This would have been a perfect night for a dinner out: Tex-Mex and margaritas. But I ended up picking up some steaks on sale at the grocery store. Yum. It was nice to have a leisurely meal. Besides, I still had laundry to finish.

And with all the obligations out of the way, I think it's time to chill for a bit.

Have a good weekend, and thanks for reading!
