And Another Convention Bites The Dust

I forgot to mention this before: Twicon (they held their first event in Dallas last year) has ceased operations. According to announcement on their site, they blame the economy. And "competitive pressures."
Ticketholders have essentially been told that it's all in the hands of the lawyers, and to await instructions. This isn't sitting well with some people, as evidenced by their message board.
Running a convention is tough - especially a media convention. I suspect they got bitten (if you'll pardon the pun) when Toronto was selected for the G20 meeting - the same weekend as their event. They hastily moved it to Ottowa, but that was probably a very expensive thing to do. One message from an organizer says they were "kicked out" of Toronto, so I hope they got their money back.
Still, it's tough to see another convention go under.
