"Cool" Is A Relative Term, Yet...

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett

Today's high at the local Weather Underground station was 109 as opposed to 113. The official high was 102, as opposed to 107 earlier in the week. Or 105 last Sunday.

Indoors, we're about 3-4 degrees cooler than we had been on Tuesday and Wednesday. How hot is it? Well, I woke up in a panic when the A/C compressor stopped running the other morning. I jumped out of bed, ran down the hall to look at the thermostat, and discovered that the house had actually cooled off to the desired temperature. The overnight lows have been in the mid-upper 80s. Overnight Wednesday/Thursday the low was 89. I kid you not. When the lows don't get below 80, houses don't cool down like they should.

We also had a little bit of a breeze today, which helped the "feels like" temperature.

The forecast still calls for 100F and above through next weekend, but maybe the temperatures are starting to mitigate just a bit. It's still broiling, we're still in the middle of a drought, but temperatures even a few degrees lower can make a difference.

In this heat we'll take what we can get.
